I. Description of the Image Database

This set of web pages will serve as an archive for our ongoing program to image fields surrounding high redshift damped Lya systems. We have established the site to distribute to the community our finished data products. At present, all of the data were acquired with LRIS on the KeckII telescope. See Oke et al. (1995) for a reference to the instrument.

At the very least, we intend to present the 'final' images for each field and several tables summarizing our astrometry, photometry, and photometric redshifts.

** If you use data from this database be sure to reference the appropriate people. **

II. Data Reduction

Because we currently provide only the finished product, it is important to speak a word or two about the data reduction process. Until now (1/11/02), we have used the IRAF suite of packages to process and calibrate the images and then an in-house package designed by H.-W. Chen (OCIW) to combine the images. The photometry was performed through a combination of SExtractor and an in-house procedure. The photometric redshifts were derived with software designed by H.-W. Chen.

In the future, the IRAF analysis will replaced by a suite of IDL packages that JXP plans to release in 2002.

III. Raw Data?

At the moment we do not plan to offer the raw data via this web site because of the amount of disk space this would involve. However, we are willing to entertain special requests for this data.
